Score formulas
Each event is converted to points from the selected Marine Corps scoring table. The total is the sum of the three event scores.
Event conversion uses performance bands rather than a single universal arithmetic formula. Where this page uses the published minimum and maximum anchors for a continuous estimate, the result is labeled as an estimate rather than an official record score.

Every Marine reaches a point where the number matters. You may need to know your PFT score two weeks before the test. Maybe you are coaching junior Marines, preparing for a meritorious board, or just done guessing. Regardless of the reason you are here, this PFT calculator provides the same score as the official MCO 6100.13A tables, eliminating the need to open a 40-page order and cross-reference three separate charts.

What the PFT Tests and How Each Event Is Scored
The Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test has three events: an upper body event, the forearm plank, and a 3-mile run. Each is worth 100 points, so the maximum PFT score is 300. For the upper body event, you declare your choice before the test starts. Pull-ups earn up to 100 points. Push-ups cap at 70, making a perfect 300 impossible if you push instead of pull. Marines who are undecided about which exercise to choose should be aware that the gap is significant on a promotion board.
The plank replaced the abdominal crunch permanently in 2023. It uses a single gender-neutral table across all eight age brackets, which is different from every other PFT event. Hold for 1 minute and 10 seconds, and you earn the minimum 40 points. Hold for 3 minutes and 45 seconds, and you earn 100. Most Marines underestimate how much plank time they are leaving on the table. A 2-minute hold is worth roughly 65 to 70 points depending on where it lands on the table. That is a real number with real consequences.

How PFT Classification Works
Passing the PFT requires 150 points total with the minimum score in every individual event. Missing the event minimum fails the whole test, even if your total would have been high enough. That rule catches people off guard every cycle. A marine can run a sub-20-minute 3-miler and still fail because they only completed 2 pull-ups.
Score classes break down like this for every age group:
3rd Class: 150 to 199 points. It is a pass. It is also a ceiling. 3rd Class consistently shows up in promotion packets and duty station requests and consistently loses those conversations.
2nd Class: 200 to 234 points. Solid. Enough to stay competitive in most environments. Not enough for meritorious boards or competitive schools.
1st Class: 235 to 300 points. This is where the USMC pft score starts working for you on paper. It feeds promotions, billets, and selections. Most serious Marines treat 235 as the floor, not the goal.
Since January 1, 2026, Marines in combat arms PMOSs, including infantry, artillery, reconnaissance, and Raiders, must score 210 or higher on the PFT scored against the male age-group tables regardless of gender. This is the MARADMIN 613/25 standard. The PFT calculator flags this automatically when you check the combat arms option in the calculator.
What the CFT Measures and Why It Is a Different Test Entirely
The Combat Fitness Test is not a harder version of the PFT. It is a different physical test measuring different energy systems. The CFT runs from July 1 through December 31 each year, so every Marine completes both tests within a 12-month window.
Three events make up the CFT. Movement to Contact is an 880-yard sprint in boots and utility trousers. Ammo lifts involve pressing a 30-pound ammunition can overhead for 2 minutes, as many reps as possible. Maneuver Under Fire is a timed obstacle course that includes low crawling, a casualty drag, a fireman carry, and a grenade throw. Each event is worth 100 points for a maximum CFT score of 300. Passing requires 150 with the event minimum in each.
How to Use PFT Calculator
This is the gap neither competitor addresses. Most PFT calculator tools give you a final number. This one breaks your score down by event so you know exactly which event is costing you points and how far you are from the next classification. If you are sitting at a 218 and want a 1st Class, the per-event breakdown tells you whether the gap lives in your pull-ups, your plank, or your run time. Those have different training solutions. Knowing the source of the gap is worth more than the final number alone.
The scoring methodology here comes directly from MCO 6100.13A with Change 4 applied. Reps and plank times score at the highest listed value they meet. Run times, Movement to Contact, and Maneuver Under Fire score at the next slower listed value when they fall between table entries. This matches the method used by official scorers and MCTIMS exactly. This marine PFT calculator does not replace your score of record. Your official score comes from your command and MCTIMS. What this tool does is give you the accurate score before test day so you are not surprised when the official result comes back.
PFT Scores by Age Group
The Marine Corps PFT scoring tables adjust for eight age brackets and two gender categories. For men, pull-up maximums range from 18 reps in the 51-plus bracket to 23 reps in the 21-35 range. For women, pull-up maximums range from 4 reps at 51-plus to 12 reps in the 26-30 bracket. Run standards follow a similar pattern. The fastest required times are in the 17-25 age groups. The slowest allowed passing times are in the 51-plus bracket. Push-up standards also shift with age, decreasing as the age group climbs.
Why Marines Need to Train for Both, Not Just the Test Coming Up
Marines sometimes treat the annual fitness cycle as two versions of the same test. They are not. The PFT measures sustained aerobic capacity and absolute strength output over a longer duration. The CFT measures anaerobic power under conditions that simulate actual combat movement. A marine who trains exclusively for PFT events can score a 270 on the PFT and find the CFT significantly harder than expected, especially the sprint-dominated Movement to Contact and the sustained effort of the MANUF. The reverse is also true.
The military fitness test calculator on this page shows both scores in one view so you can see where your PFT performance and CFT performance diverge. That gap is almost always where the training adjustment needs to happen, not in the event where you are already strong. Marines who address both tests in the same training block consistently hold better combined scores across the full year than Marines who peak for one and coast into the other.
